"Having a poorly fitted helmet is like wearing a loose seat belt in a car. It won't provide much protection when you need it"
A correctly fitted helmet will offer the best protection. It is mandatory in Australia to wear a helmet when riding a bike. Do not buy a helmet that is too big in the hope that your child will grow into it. Helmets which are too big will not offer the protection that it is designed to do.

How to Fit a Helmet.
It is important the helmet is comfortable. Caps/hats should not be worn under helmets as it interferes with the fit and protection. Choose a helmet that provides a good fit, is not too heavy, and has good ventilation.
A helmet is designed to protect a person's head for one impact only. If the helmet has been involved in a crash or is dropped from a height - you need to replace it. Even if there is no visible damage. Make sure the foam (protective layer that takes the impact of the crash) is not old, cracked and crumbling. Clean the helmet according to the manufacturer's instructions.
